Personal Update

Rein It In, Girl

Life is about balance. Yes, yes it is. I’ve said it so many times before, but weightloss management is about balance too. You need to be able to live and enjoy life without rigid structure constantly. Most importantly, you need to know when to rein it in and be strict again. I haven’t been good with my food since I got ill. I haven’t been awful, but could have been a lot better. There were lots of treats when we were on holiday and of course today as it is Easter. My daily food was a mixture of healthy options and cheeky bits I really shouldn’t have been eating. With that said though, I’m not upset or feel guilty.

Easter Breakfast

Happy Easter! The hubs and I cheated and we shared an egg last night, whoops.

The little one had chocolate for breakfast and some toast. The one day a year I allow her to freely eat chocolate when she wants it. To be fair though, she only had a few pieces. She was far more interested in her new books the Easter Bunny brought her.

I’m having banana and flaxseed protein ice cream and a warmed up BUp Cinnamon Roll protein bar. Something light but still feels like a naughty treat when everyone else is swimming in chocolates. We’re having a carvery later with the fam, already vowed on no potatoes and little gravy. Got to love the fact it’s all you can eat veg!

Spanish Style Chicken Bake

I was so excited when I bought Book 1 of the Hairy Bikers Hairy Dieter series. I’ve loved the Hairy Bikers for years and always wanted to try their recipes but never got around to it. You can imagine how quick I ran to the kitchen when the book came in the post.

This book did not disappoint. Nearly every recipe looked amazing and and used every day ingredients. It seems a lot of celebrity chefs use ingredients you either need to take a loan out with Waitrose to buy or have to book a day off work to cook. It really puts me off to be honest. All I want to do is cook healthy, simple and delicious meals for my family. I don’t need to brag that my truffles were found by God’s very own pet pig on golden roller skates.

Chicken and Mushroom Risotto

The first recipe I made was the Spanish Style Chicken Bake. At the time, I couldn’t taste it because of a wicked bad infection. However, when I had the left overs a few days later it tasted lovely. The hubs loved it as well. It was time consuming but sometimes on the weekends it’s nice to spend a little extra time cooking for everyone.

One thing I did notice though is quite a few recipes do not use spices aside from salt and black pepper. Take the minestrone soup for instance. It uses the flavourfrom the chicken stock and veggies. From memory, when I’ve had minestrone soup before it had strong flavour from oregano or Italian seasonings. Now don’t get me wrong, this soup did taste fabulous, but it didn’t taste like traditional minestrone soup. Why do some recipes feel like to be healthy and low

calorie that it has to lack flavour? Spices are free in my eyes, season away people! I can’t wait to make some more of the recipes from the book, spices or no spices. Quite a few of them will freeze which means you can batch cook the Bikers healthy meals to enjoy throughout the week.

To be fair, this isn’t a long review because I can’t fault the book. The recipes are easy to cook, use basic ingredients and taste great. I didn’t struggle finding something to cook because every recipe looked and sounded really good! Granted, there was one or two recipes I probably wouldn’t make, but you can’t write a cook book to please everyone’s palettes. This is perfect for work lunches or busy weeks!If you haven’t grabbed a copy of the Hairy Bikers Hairy Dieters Book 1, go get it! After I work my way through more of the recipes, I will definitely get book 2! If there is a book you would like me to review in the future, let me know in the comments below!

Pamper Me Fit

Morning everyone! Breakfast on the move this morning is pineapple and coconut protein smoothie while I get ready to head out. Getting my hair done at 10 then off for more shopping before doing some DIY!

Before I lost my weight I used to treat myself with sugary drinks and bad food. Now it’s with clothes and getting my hair done. I need to reign it in a little though because these treats are a lot more expensive than food! Hope you’re all having a great Saturday.

Cuddles and Concussions

We didn’t have a good start to our good Friday. Naomi fell off our bed this morning and we thought she had a concussion. She turned very grumpy and was vomiting. We did plan on going shopping but spent 4hrs in A & E instead. My breakfast was a Quest pumpkin pie bar and a latte, so glad I ordered the Box of Protein so I had things like this to grab in a hurry.

We are home from hospital, thankfully Naomi had no concussion! She’s now resting up. I cannot fault New Cross A&E they were brilliant with her and even gave her an Easter egg!

Such a simple recipe! Dave and Si know how to win me over.

What is the cure for being ill? Chocolate! No okay, soup! I couldn’t have planned this meal any better. I was off sick from work today with this chest infection and conjunctivitis. My chest is sore and it’s still a bit hard to breathe and my vision is still wonky. Nothing is as comforting as a hot bowl of homemade soup to clear the tubes and warm the belly.

I was grateful how easy this soup was to make. When you’re poorly the last thing you want to do is spend loads of time in the kitchen cooking. The Hairy Bikers got this down to a tee, the meal took me roughly under 45 minutes to cook. Again, I apologise I didn’t keep an eye on the clock as Naomi had just got home from nursery so I was bouncing between cooking and getting her ready for bed. This is also meant to be a one pan meal which saves on washing up. Though, my silly self forgot I had a nice big soup pot and so I used a frying pan and a large saucepan. Ah well, I know for next time. The last great thing about this soup? 98 caolories per serving (115 if you have cheese on the top)! Can’t go wrong with that can you? That means you can have a nice crusty cob along with it if you wanted and not feel bad about the calories. Get in.

Chocolate for Breakfast, Yes Please

Breakfast this morning is a Lenny & Larrys Cookies & Cream protein brownie followed by a cuppa and antibiotics. Chocolate for breakfast is definitely acceptable when you’re poorly.

I’m still feeling rubbish. My chest hurts and my vision is blurry, so it’s home for me today. I probably sound like a right moany old tart, but I can’t remember ever being so ill! Whenever people said they had a chest infection I thought, “oh it’s just a nasty cough you’ll be alright.” I am so, so sorry to anyone who has ever had a chest infection. If only I knew. Fingers crossed a second full day of antibiotics and plenty of rest will help.

Appetite Where Have You Gone

I took a leaf from @mads_getsfit and made her banana “nice” cream – thank you beautiful it’s amazing! My calories were quite low for the day so I added a Trio bar as a treat. Whole bowl is under 300 calories and it was a massive portion! Can’t wait to tweak this recipe with ingredients and flavours. Watch this space!

I decided to track my calories today out of curiosity because I knew they would be low. Before this ice cream I was under 1000 calories. Really not good. Not sure if it’s antibiotics or my body trying to tell me to rest, but I just haven’t had an appetite. I’ve had to force down all my food today which is very unlike me.

For lunch I had 5 strawberries, a handful of mango chunks and a Muscle Food Vanilla Crisp Bar. Chased that down with a skinny sugar free hazlenut latte. I was gobbed and to be honest probably wouldn’t have eaten lunch if it wasn’t for the fact I was shakey and dizzy. Dinner was homemade fish tacos with cauliflower tortillas and baja sauce. Again, forced this down as I knew I needed to eat because of the antibiotics.

It all kind of goes against my ethos, don’t eat if you’re not hungry regardless of times and meals. However, due to the fact I’m on antibiotics I know I HAVE to eat. Last thing I want is this infection to last any longer than it has already.

Fuelled by Penicillin

Breakfast this morning is nutty muesli, paracetamol and a fresh cuppa. Half of it ended up on my sleeve due to a coughing fit, the joys

So last night I ended up at the doctors due to the nagging of my other half. I’m glad he nagged as I ended up having a chest infection and conjunctivitis. It’s strange as well how when you find out your proper poorly how much worse you feel. We’ll call it acceptance.

Calling Dr Jones

Busy busy day today! It’s the only downside of having time off work. Lunch is leftover Spanish chicken bake. Tastebuds have still pissed off only tingly lips.

I’m off to the walk in clinic this afternoon. I still think what I have is vital, but everyone is insisting I go since its been two weeks since I’ve had this bug. I hate going to the doctors because I always feel like I’m wasting their time when people with more pressing problems could be seen.

Back To The Grind

Breakfast for my first day back at work is sweet potato hash with scrambled egg. I CAN TASTE IT KIND OF! Thank the stars! Though, as quickly as I tasted it I lost it again. Oh dear.

I think I will be off to the doctor this evening. I hate going because I feel like I’m being over dramatic and wasting their time, but surely after 2 weeks it’s warranted.
