The term “size doesn’t matter” is thrown around a lot in weight loss and regarding body confidence. In some aspects, size does matter. It does matter if you are very large to the point it is having a negative affect on your health. Likewise, it does matter if you are very thin to the point it is having a negative affect on your health. All in all, it doesn’t matter the size you are as long as you’re healthy and happy. You could line up 5 individuals that weight the exact same weight and each person will look different and be a different size.
Well, we go on our holibobs this weekend. Not far, just down to Brean. However, this is the bikini I bought for when we go to the indoor pool. Never in my adult life have I worn a bikini.
My body isn’t perfect by any means. My boobs have shrunk and are now small and saggy. I have a lot of stretch marks on my body, but mainly on my belly from pregnancy. I also have a lot of excess skin on my belly which means it will never be flat. I constantly look like I have a food baby. My Arse is gone completely, seriously, it’s just straight from back to legs. I have psoriasis and eczema. Hirsutism causes body hair I have to shave in places I wish I didn’t have to.
Despite all of that, I love my body. Don’t get me wrong, I have days where I want to cry when I look in the mirror. 9 times out of 10 I still see the old bigger me. But sometimes, just sometimes, I look at myself and see how far I’ve come. The fears I’ve conquered and the achievements I’ve accomplished. It’s so easy to compare our journeys and weight loss to others. I’m 5ft 2in, 8st 13lbs and wear a size 10. Put me next to someone with the exact same stats and they will look completely different. Our bodies will lose weight at different rates, in different places and have different shapes. This is what makes us unique.
If I could give anyone any advice it’s this – trust your body. Believe in your body. Accept your body. Your body is yours and yours alone. There isn’t another like it in the world, take pride and love it.
